introduction to pysanky

In this beginners pysanky class, participants will learn the basics of this Ukrainian tradition. These eggs are traditionally made for Easter. Participants will learn how to blow out and sterilize eggs, how to mark out designs, how to write their own designs with beeswax using a Kistka, and how to dye their eggs. This workshop will also discuss traditional Ukrainian symbolism for Pysanky. All supplies will be included by the instructor.

Times: 1 PM-3:30 PM

Location: Kentuck's Georgine Clarke Building

Tuition: $65; All supplies included (please wear something you don't mind getting dye on!)

This class is for participants ages 18+, and participants should wear clothing that they would not mind getting dye on. This class has a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 8. If the class does not meet the minimum, participants will be refunded. Tickets are non-refundable once the registration deadline ends.

meet the instructor: lizzy bigelow

A native of Mississippi, Lizzy is a recent graduate of the University of Alabama’s New College where she studied graphic design and small business management. She now lives in Montgomery and works full time as a graphic designer. In her free time, she enjoys pursuing creative hobbies. Raised in the Orthodox church, Lizzy was immersed in Eastern European culture where she picked up the art of Pysanka. Its meditative properties and uniqueness (to North America) make it a craft that she looks forward to each holiday season and is eager to share.
